HEIGHTENING AWARENESS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF USING MULTICULTURAL LITERATURE Heightening Awareness about the Importance of Using Multicultural Literature In their paper, Heightening Awareness about the Importance of Using Multicultural Literature, the authors, Susan A. Colby and Anna F. Lyon, express the importance how teachers should create an awareness on the importance of multicultural literature in today’s classrooms, and how the role of literature of this type plays an important role in the lives children. The authors state that, â€Å"Multicultural literature helps children identify with their own culture, exposes children to other cultures, and opens the dialogue on issues regarding diversity†, (Colby Lyon, p. 1).
